The Barcelona ace has been linked with moves to West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.
West Ham have seriously underperformed this season, and if they are to make genuine progress, they need to start acting like a big club in the transfer market, and bring top quality players to the club, rather than cheap, short-term options.
Whether David Moyes is still in charge of the Hammers in the summer remains to be seen, but he should already be lining up potential targets, with the mindset that he will be at the club for the long-term.
One of his potential targets is Barcelona ace Andre Gomes, according to Spanish media outlet AS, who claim that Tottenham are also interested in signing the Portugal international.
The 24-year-old has struggled at the Camp Nou, since making his £48.8 million move from Valencia in the summer of 2016, but he still has so much to offer at the very highest level, and the Hammers would be making a huge statement if they managed to usurp their London rivals in the race for his signature.
The east London outfit have reached a turning point in their evolution as a football club. Are they happy with being at best mere also rans, and at worst a yoyo club? Or do they really want to make their mark in the game, and push on for glory both domestically and on the continent?
Hammers fans will be hoping that their club's owners back up their promises with hard cash this summer, and there would be no better way to prove their intent than by bringing Gomes to the London Stadium.
The 24-year-old possesses impeccable technique, is calm when in possession and is an expert passer of the football.
Given the opportunity of regular first-team action at West Ham, he could turn out to be a real coup for the Hammers, and it would be all the sweeter for them, if they did in fact manage to beat Spurs to his signature in the process.

How West Ham could line up against Liverpool with the imminent return of Manuel Lanzini
Where is the Argentine going to fit in the team as he makes his comeback?

Manuel Lanzini is set to return to full training with West Ham next week and eyeing a return for the daunting Premier League trip to high-flying Liverpool next weekend.
The Argentine has missed the past four games after picking up a hamstring injury in the second half of the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth last month. Marko Arnautovic picked up the same injury in that game but returned for the 2-0 win against Watford last weekend.
Lanzini's absence has seen Javier Hernandez step up to the plate with three goals and an assist during that time and on-loan midfielder Joao Mario has settled into the team fairly well too.
The Argentinian is West Ham's most creative player and his absence has been sorely missed, especially after he and Arnautovic showed incredible signs of causing damage in the 4-1 thumping of Huddersfield Town on January 13.
With the midfielder's return, someone will have to make way or there will have to be a change of formation if manager David Moyes wants to keep both Arnautovic and the in-form Hernandez in the side.
What are the options for the Moyes if Lanzini is back for the trip to Anfield or the visit to Swansea a week later?

This is the same formation as what we have seen recently but there is one notable omission and that's of Chicharito. It's obviously harsh on the striker but unless Moyes decides to bench either Kouyate or Joao Mario - he won't bench Arnautovic - it's the only realistic choice to get Lanzini back in if he persists with playing five defenders.
4-4-2
It's not your traditional 4-4-2 with Lanzini on the left but in his usual floating role but it does mean that the trio of him, Arnautovic and Hernandez can all play in the same side.
The player to make way is Michail Antonio as Aaron Cresswell plays in a more orthodox left back spot. Moyes could feasibly drop one of the midfielders to allow Antonio to come in for them, maybe Kouyate the most likely candidate but it'll be a tough decision for the manager to make.
